A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others. – Unknown Author
A teacher is the second mother to a child, like how the mother is the first teacher to a child. Teaching is an art and to master it one needs a whole lot of patience, determination and dedication. Anyone can become a teacher but to become a good teacher one needs passion to teach. It is very hard to retain the student’s attention in a class room. Each child is different and each one had varied interests. At school level it is easy for a teacher to grasp a student’s attention towards his/her. As they grow their attention levels decrease drastically. It is very important that the teacher motivates the student to retain his attention.
A few simple steps ensure that the student is motivated. Like
- Encourage team work
- Identify student potential
- Lay goals
- Personal Interaction
- Give ample examples
- Accept failures
- Engage effectively
- Appreciate efforts
As a teacher, it is very important that the student feels at ease with him/her. The student should not feel hesitant to interact with the teacher at any point of time. The relationship between the duos should be a cordial one. The teacher should be efficient enough to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the student to help build a stronger relationship.
It is the efficiency of a good teacher to locate the student’s inability and make it his strength. Not all students have the same interests. Each one has a plus and minus or more than it. It is up to the teacher to bring out the best and ignore the minus in him. Favoring the best student and neglecting the not so good students is one big flaw in a teacher. The teacher must give equal priority to both the students; in fact give more importance to the latter to help him become a better one. It is easy to influence the young minds as they are ready to accept and change their path effortlessly.
Different methods of commitment and teaching have to be used in a single classroom because all students cannot learn in the same way and the same pace. It is sometimes a challenging task for the teacher to tackle with the students. It is necessary that both the teacher and students share mutual respect amongst each other. Just because the teacher is older some teachers tend to show disrespect to the students but expect utmost respect from them. Some things in life work vice versa pattern, respect is one of them. Respecting one’s students motivates them to respect their teachers in return.
Teachers must create a safe and supportive platform for their students. This in turn motivates the students to grow eventually. The feeling of fear between them only creates a rift and results in poor performance by the student. A student stays motivated to study and retain what is taught if there exists a safe and supportive environment.
Tracking the student’s performance and correcting their mistakes will motivate them undoubtedly. The teachers must follow this pattern to keep a record of the performances of their students.
