The ancient time Polo is said to have its origin in central Asia, but Manipur is said to lay the foundation of the modern polo. The famous Mughal king of India gave this game a very dominate status, thus popularizing this sport. During the years of slavery under British rule, polo was adopted by the British and hence became popular across the globe. This game is played on horseback though the British people played it on the elephant back.

It is assumed that initially, martial arts started in India, but then it spread to various countries where it went through a number of modifications.
